General
Is Background.ai free?
Removing a background and previewing the result is free, with no account. Downloading the full-resolution transparent PNG is part of the Pro and Business plans.
Do I need to create an account?
Not to try it: upload an image and preview the result without signing up. To download, create an account with just your email address. There is no password to remember, because we email you a login link. You can add a password later if you like.
How do I log in?
Enter your email address on the login page and we send you a one-time login link. If you added a password in your account settings, you can log in with that instead.
Can I use the results commercially?
Yes. The images you upload remain yours, and so do the results. Use them in your store, ads, client work or anywhere else.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. The site works in any modern mobile browser. Tap the upload box to pick a photo from your camera roll, then save the PNG.
Images and quality
Which file types can I upload?
JPG, PNG and WebP images up to 15 MB. The result is always a transparent PNG.
What resolution is the result?
The same size as your upload, up to 4000 pixels on the longest side. Larger images are scaled down to 4000 px before processing.
Does it work with hair and fur?
Yes. The AI model is trained to keep fine details like hair, fur and soft edges.
What kind of photos work best?
Photos with one clear subject: a person, a product or a pet. Good light and a subject that is in focus give the cleanest edges. Very busy scenes with several overlapping subjects are harder.
How long does it take?
Usually about 10 seconds per image. The first image after a quiet period can take a few seconds longer while the AI model loads.
Privacy
What happens to my images?
Your image is processed on our own servers and never shared. Images uploaded without an account are deleted automatically after 24 hours. Images saved to your account stay in your dashboard until you delete them.
Do you use my images to train AI?
No. Your images are only used to produce your results.
Do you keep photo metadata like location?
No. We strip metadata such as EXIF and GPS location from every upload before it is processed.
Plans
When will paid plans be available?
Online checkout for the Pro and Business plans opens soon. Until then you can create an account, and your images stay saved in your dashboard, ready to download once you subscribe.
Is there an API?
An API for developers is part of the upcoming Business plan, for automating background removal in your own app or store.
